In the conclusions of the report from Truth and Reconciliation Commission it shows that the internal political violence that occurred from 1980 to 2000 had it roots in the past. 75% of the victims of violence were poor and impoverished Quechua speaking people living in isolated rural areas of the country. They also highlight the need for reconciliation between different groups of peoples and for the reconstruction the civil society.
The Institute has untaken an investigation which will be a contribution towards reinforcing the Church’s option for the poor, highlighting the contribution of committed Christians during the years of violence and who continue to work of justice, respect for life, particularly among the most vulnerable and oppressed sectors. This is the challenge of true reconciliation, a new beginning for Peru as underlined by the report from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. The investigation will take place in 5 of the areas most affected by the violence Huacho, San Juan de Lurigancho (Lima), Sur Andino, Ucayali and Junín.
